HUES OF TRADITION FT. SUE MUE

HUES OF TRADITION FT. SUE MUE

The sparkle of love in her eyes
The colors and tradition in her guise
She lives and breathes her dream on the rise
In her royal heritage, the treasure lies

-Kriti Sethi

Sue Mue, the bespoke boutique that has been the couture destination of choice for almost four generations of stylish customers, presented its Bani Thani collection recently for the festive season of 2016 and I have been smitten ever since, not just with the beauticious creations but also with the thought process and design philosophy attached to them. Intricate embroideries and vivid hues come bundled together in a beautifully tailored collection, designed for today’s woman of substance. An indigenous tribute to the royal regalia and cultural heritage of the state of Rajasthan, Bani Thani celebrates the traditional values of the past and progressive thoughts of the modern day woman with equal elan.

As the fragrance of weddings is almost in the air, it seemed like the perfect time to put together some inspiration-worthy bridal looks using elegant separates from Sue Mue paired with loads of audacious jewelry. In an attempt to capture the spirit of Sue Mue’s muse, an enigmatic Indian woman, here’s a short video I created in association with Tarun Chawla, featuring the looks I styled. Reflecting on the moods of a bride-to-be, the video features ensembles steeped in tradition yet gracefully infused with edgy techniques of modern garment construction.

I hope you enjoy viewing it!

Look 1 – Ameera

Queen of vitality, Ameera is sensuous, serene and unapologetically beautiful.

Ameera from Sue Mue’s Bridal collection celebrates womanhood, its quality to beautifully amalgamate two contrasts and the zest for living a life full of vigour.

Description: Magenta handloom silk lehenga set with a garland of beautiful gota patti petals and delicate zardoz flowers exquisitely embroidered in a pattern, inspired by the art and architecture of Rajasthan. The blouse that I paired with this look has lapel collars and the dual dupattas are in luxe tulle.

Look 2 – Ila

Resplendent, nurturing. It’s the perfect description of Mother Earth with beauteous hints of prospering colours.
An ability to evolve and build a legacy of geniuses. Ila from Sue Mue’s Bani Thani this season is resplendent with an inherent spirit of giving, nurturing and leaving a prosperous state for posterity.
Description: An elegant paneled long jacket in deep green handloom silk, embellished with multi-coloured french knot florals and gota patti leaves in a vine motif. Paired with a mustard lehenga and a georgette dupatta in magenta. The best way to depict growth and prosperity is through floral vines. They find life in the strangest of places and battle against all odds to grow in abundance. Sue Mue has zardoz embroidered all Ila ensembles with multi-coloured floral vines to honour life on our planet.

Look 3 – Chokhi
Imperfect beauty. Chokhi is a mirror image of one’s self, perfect through imperfections.
Beauty always lies in the eyes of the beholder. It’s the imperfections through the highs and lows of life, that make you perfectly beautiful. Chokhi from Sue Mue’s Bani Thani collection is an ode to a woman who in her whole self, is always beautiful and worthy of her perfect imperfections.
Description: A vermilion red short silk kurta paired with an ivory tiered sharara. Gota patti floral bootis are laid across the ensemble, combined with a wide geometric border.
